Studio JW is an independent creative studio established by Jo Woolley, an Artist and Textile Designer, bringing together art, textiles and surface pattern design inspired by the intricate patterns found in nature.

Hi there! I’m Jo.

I am an Australian Artist and Textile Designer based in Meanjin/ Brisbane. With more than 20 years’ experience designing textiles for fashion and interiors, I have worked across commercial carpet and rug design, surface pattern, colour and textile development for interior and fashion applications.

Before Studio JW, my background includes custom carpet and rug design for commercial interiors across Australia and Internationally, working with designers, manufacturers and project teams. Today my studio brings this experience together with my personal art practice, creating work that moves between interiors, fashion and art.

STUDIO WORK

SURFACE PATTERN DESIGN

Developing original, hand-crafted surface patterns for interiors, fashion and lifestyle, informed by research observation and experimentation.

My process often begins with exploring archives, photographic reference material and collecting visual details. I develop these ideas through drawing, painting, collage and marl-making, experimenting with materials and techniques before refining the designs digitally.

RUG DESIGN

Drawing on more than 13 years of commercial experience, I am exploring a slower approach to rug making and design.

Using traditional rug-making techniques, including hand-knotting, hand-tufting and punch needle and to develop a range of hand made artworks for the wall.

COMMISSIONS

I welcome enquiries about commissions across original artwork, painting, surface pattern and textile design.
